Cherokee Nation Does Not Require A Certain Blood Quantum (articles provided by journalist Michael Overall)

April 18, 2013, Following up on the blood quantum distinction within the Baby Veronica Indian Adoption case, the Cherokee Nation does not require a certain blood quantum and members need only to show that they are direct descendants of people who are listed on the Dawes Roll. That standard is obviously much different-lower than that required to obtain a North American Indian Status Card and that which is required to claim ‘legal membership status’ of several other North American Indian tribes-bands.
As journalist Michael Overall explained, “The Cherokee Nation does not require a certain “blood quantum.” Members need only to show that they are direct descendants of people who listed on the Dawes Roll.”
Again, Baby Veronica Indian Adoption case is not a case of USA Placed Victim-Survivor of The Canadian Scoops but is posted onto this blog because The Case refers to legislation passed in 1978 that also speaks to principles underlying actions related to USA Placed Victims-Survivors of The Canadian Scoops.
