Rejecting Settlements Offered by TRC-Canada And Initiating Independent Suits

April 28, 2013 § Leave a comment

April 28, 2013, Alvin Tolley is heading a group of Scoop Victims who rejected settlement amounts offered to them by TRC-Canada.  These Canadian Scoop victims submitted their complaints, received settlement offers, rejected and appealed the settlement offers, and rejected the subsequent offers made post-appeal.  These victims-survivors know that they will do better pursuing their claims together in court of law.  Those that were forced to accept the lower settlement offers are cheering them on.

Though no amount of money will replace their childhoods lost or eradicate the trauma that the biological families suffered as a result of not knowing where their children were taken to, if they were in the country or out of the country, if they were dead or alive, abused or safe, a ‘too small’ sum is an insult.  The Canadian Government and complicit First Nations Indian Bands can do better, and they should want to.
