As American NFL Football Season Commences, the name debate

August 20, 2014, As American NFL Football season commences, the debate over the NFL-Redskins team name kicks up again: Phil Simms of CBS, though he won’t take a position on the debate itself, says that he won’t refer to the team by the name ‘Redskins’, and activists who want the name changed are putting their protest strategies into place while those of North American Indian descent who have always celebrated the Washington Redskins name feel their pride is being put on the defensive. The latter are afraid that the pride and joy that they have derived from having such a prominent NFL team nick-named for them could result in their being thought of as ‘traders’ to their own heritage…and, that is a fear coming from those who are documented 100% North American Indian Blood Quantum, i.e., the integrity of their lineage usually not-questioned.
Hopefully the positive experiences and connotations of the team name will win out over the negative.
